Students can register for Hebrew Classes by becoming a Gold Subscriber or above on the Patreon site for Queen Makedah.  Subscription cost is $50/monthly for full access to all 4 Hebrew Sessions, printables and video class library.  Once students subscribe, they will receive links to register for classes.

INSTRUCTOR: 

All classes will be taught by Morah Makedah (a.k.a. Queen Makedah).

OVERVIEW: 

The instructional focus for the courses is on teaching Hebrew language through Tehillim (Hebrew prayers, blessings, psalms) and Torah with connections to Modern Hebrew.   

If you are seeking to go deeper in prayer or Torah understanding - and are willing to put in the time - the classes would be a good fit for you. 

The Beginners sessions this year are designed to take you from absolute beginner through intermediate in reading and writing Hebrew through 4 six week sessions in the academic year.

This class is perfect for those who wish to 

  • Enhance their prayer life 
  • Prepare for Torah reading 
  • Participate in Torah liturgy in their congregation 
  • Lead prayers, blessings, and songs in their family or congregation.  
  • MEETING TIMES:  Classes meet on Sundays at 12 pm EST on  ZOOM in four 6-week sessions during the academic year as follows:

  • WINTER 01/24 - 02/28/2021 (Beginner Level Alef, part 2) 12 p.m. EST on ZOOM
  • SPRING 04/11 - 05/16/2021 (Beginner Level Bet, part 1) 12 p.m. EST on ZOOM
  • SUMMER 06/06 - 07/11/2021 (Beginner Level Bet, part 2)  12 p.m. EST on ZOOM

LEARNING GOALS: 

Hebrew language goals for these courses are to help students: 

  • Read tehillim and prayers with fluency 
  • Build comprehension through alef bet, vocab, root word study 
  • Contextualize vocabulary in Torah and modern conversation 
  • Use the language of the tehillim to develop your own prayers from the heart 
  • Understand Biblical Hebrew grammar basics 
  • Learn songs and melodies for the tehillim 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 

  • Students will learn to recognize the 22 letters of the alef bet and their vowels 
  • Students will learn a minimum of 25 new high frequency vocabulary words per session (100 new words by end of school year)  
  • Students will learn how to read 12 fundamental Hebrew prayers/blessings with a greater degree of ease and fluency 
  • Students will learn how to write Hebrew letters and words in block and scripts 
  • Students will be introduced to a variety of high frequency words and phrases and their proper use in modern Hebrew to prepare for conversation 
  • Students will progress from beginner to intermediate by the end of the year

  • Shabbat candle lighting

  • Holy Day blessings

 You will also need: 

  • A computer, i-pad, or tablet 
  • Reliable internet connection 
  • A quiet space to study  
  • A gmail account 
  • A notebook 
  • regular and colored pencils, markers, highlighters 

ASSESSMENT: 

  • Informal assessments will be done each class 
  • A final (formal) assessment will be administered at the end of each quarter 
  • Students are required to do homework each week of the session, participate in discussions and activities, and study for quizzes. 
  • Class participation amounts to 50% of your grade 
  • Homework is 25% of your grade 
  • Final Assessments are 25% of your grade 

GRADING SCALE:

Students must score at least a 60% each quarter in order to pass.

  • A - 90-100% 
  • B - 80-90% 
  • C - 70-80% 
  • D - 60-70% 

CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION:

Students will receive a certificate of accomplishment at the end of the year.
