In her new single ‘Lay Down Your Guns’ (from the Peace Process album) - available on all digital platforms July 7th - Queen Makedah uses her exquisite neo-soul vocal prowess and poetic genius to passionately tell the stories of youth and ordinary people impacted by gun violence in America and the world. The masterfully arranged reggae dance track fuses old school hip-hop and funk into a contemporary reggae riddim, featuring authentic spoken word and urban rap that heightens the vibe.

Makedah shares these words: “The song Lay Down Your Guns is special to me because the lyrics came while working as a public school teacher in the ghettos of Oakland and Richmond, California, which were plagued by horrific gang violence. Unfortunately, the victims were often innocent children and teens caught in the crossfire or even targeted. Every child in my class, both in kindergarten and 3rd grade, knew someone who was killed by gun violence, and the fear that they or someone they know may die by gunfire was sadly a very real possibility. We all need to do something and my prayer is that through telling their stories, this song will make a difference.”
