This year, Alef Bet Bootcamp(s) will be offered to absolute beginners inn short sessions at various times of the year in lieu of regular semester classes.

The Goals of the bootcamp classes will be for students to learn the letters of the alef bet and how to read (decode) Hebrew words to prepare them for conversational classes in the fall.

Course Description

Objective: 

By the end of the course students will be able to read Hebrew sentences and phrases. 

For Curriculum, students will be taught from the Ulpan Or Hebrew Starter’s Pack, which is a reading only book (non-conversational). 

Calendar: 

The best time for students to take the Alef Bet Bootcamp is the summer, because the weekly Novice Low conversational classes begin in the fall. 

Schedule for Summer of 2022: 

  • Alef Bet Bootcamp part 1, JULY 10, 2022 at 12 pm EST - Unit 1-2: Vowels + Alef, bet, gimel, dahlet, (sheva vowel), hey 
  • Alef Bet Bootcamp part 2, JULY 17, 2022 at 12 pm EST  - Unit 3: Vav, zayin, chet, tet, yod + vowels 
  • Alef Bet Bootcamp part 3, JULY 24, 2022 at 12 pm EST  - Unit 4: Caf, lamed, mem, nun, samech + vowels 
  • Alef Bet Bootcamp part 4, JULY 31, 2022 at 12 pm EST  -Unit 5: Ayin, pey/phey, tzadey, koof, resh, sheen/seen, tav + vowels 

Fees: 

Classes are free for patrons and sliding scale donation for non-patrons, which can be made via https://PayPal.me/queenmakedah or $queenmakedah via Cash App.    

Patrons or students who sign up for the Novice Low classes in the fall will be given preferential seating in the event that there is limited seating.

Curriculum:

Students who are studying in the fall at the Novice Low level, should pay their Ulpan Or curriculum fee asap and they will be able to study from the digital textbook as well as the videos and the resources below. 

Students who are not taking the fall class will need to use the class videos and the resources below.

  • The Alef Bet app of your choice: 
  • Alef bet videos via Youtube (lessons and songs) 
  • Kahoot alef bet games 
  • Flipgrid recording app

Format:

Classes will be held on Zoom.  Because the Ulpan Or curriculum is an all inclusive Hebrew conversation program designed for independent or classroom study, students are able to prepare in advance for classes and in class the instructor will act as a coach.
