Peace Process Album

Reggae-Vibes

"Peace Process contains 14 worthwhile tracks full of consciousness and sonically this album is topnotch, a real treat for the listener’s eardrums. Most of the offerings are underpinned by appealing original reggae backdrops, which are stamped with quality all over. They are complemented by Queen Makedah’s beautiful vocal delivery which shines on every song.

Getting things started on Queen Makedah’s third album is definitely one of the highlights, the huge I Am Shem, one of four collaborations with the ever-reliable Zion I Kings – David ‘Jah D’ Goldfine, Laurent ‘Tippy I’ Alfred, and Andrew ‘Moon’ Bain. The other three tunes are Suspicious, Heal The Earth, and Hoo Yahvo, all of them leaving a good impression. In particular the moving social commentary Suspicious and Hoo Yahvo are the ones that go on repeat. Other tracks that can be enjoyed to the fullest include the deeply spiritual version of Psalms 24 titled Clean Hands, Holy Mount Zion, Babylon Food, and the gorgeous duet with Toussaint the Liberator, King and Queen Riddim.

All in all, a convincing and satisfying album.

Official Press Release

Peace Process Album by Queen Makedah

Queen Makedah’s latest album, Peace Process, is a continuation of her work to bring peace, elevation and healing to the world through conscious reggae and worldbeat music in these troubled times.

The album was conceived 7 years ago, while Queen Makedah teaching in public school in Oakland and living in Richmond, California - both notorious for gang violence.  As a mother and teacher, Makedah was deeply impacted by the high homicide rates for black and brown youth and was compelled to write the potent lyrics that grace the album.

The album features powerful collaborations with producers Zion I Kings hailing from St. Croix (Midnite, Pressure, Snoop Dogg, Lutan Fyah, Jahdan Blakkamoore, Sizzla, Anthony B) on the tracks ‘I am Shem,’ ‘Suspicious,’ ‘Heal the Earth’ and ‘Hoo Yahvo’ - graced by veteran reggae musicians like Dean Fraser, Lloyd ‘Junior’ Richards and Junior P.

Last year, Makedah released a spectacular contemporary version of Psalms 24,  ‘Clean Hands,’ from the album which features Makedah’s sublime vocals over a brilliantly crafted dub-step style riddim composed by Grammy nominated producer Pink Fader (alongside a magnificent video recorded in the majestic Judean mountains).  The chune is described as ‘wonderfully crafted and put together with thought and understanding’ by Mike Jenkins of The Radio Show Roots Locker and Roots Locker West.

In her latest single Lay Down Your Guns (released July 2023), Queen Makedah passionately tells the stories of urban youth and ordinary people impacted by gun violence over a masterfully arranged hip-hop and funk infused contemporary reggae riddim composed by urban producer Anywaywell that features timely authentic spoken word and urban rap.  The track was noted as “wickedly wonderful!’ with ‘stellar vocals and a strong message’ by DJ Tiffany Harmon of Joy in the Morning www.kzsc.org and ‘Big chune!’ by  DJ Junior T of ‘Roots and Culture Sundays’ (UK) and www.FunkySX.com.

In her much anticipated upcoming single Holy Mount Zion (due out September 22nd), Queen Makedah continues the Zion themed roots reggae tradition by using her golden voice atop a mesmerizing contemporary reggae riddim composed by the genius of late Jamaican bassie-producer Christopher Meredith (Sugar Minott, Amy Winehouse, Stephen Marley) to decry the woes of Babylon system and yearn for a place of peace.  Written in response to tragic cases of police brutality and racial injustice that plague ghetto youths and innocent civilians in America and around the world, Makedah says: ‘This song represents the collective prayers of mothers like me seeking peace and justice for their children and families.’

Queen Makedah says ‘My hope is that the songs on this album inspire more peace across religious, racial, national, tribal, economic, and social boundaries.”  The album is dedicated to the youth and all those impacted by gun violence.
